The education field has changed a lot over the past few decades. Classroom-based classes have been replaced by online learning techniques that incorporate the flexibility of recorded courses and class meetings held via videoconferencing software that is real-time. However, even these online options do not meet the needs of students who prefer the live interaction of a face-to -face classroom.

Live learning online is an alternative to these other methods of online learning that allows students and instructors to talk in real-time using videoconferencing programs like Zoom. The classes provide students with the opportunity to ask questions, clarify confusion, and gain a greater understanding of the material being taught.

While there are many advantages to using live learning but it can be a challenge for some students to adapt to this kind of online learning. This study focuses on student ability to live learn and identifies the primary factors that influence it. The findings show that motivation for learning, self-directed learning and online communication are the most significant influencing factors. The researchers also conducted a multi-group analysis and post hoc test to evaluate the differences between gender, undergraduate and graduate students, as well as sub-degree students. It was found that postgraduate students have greater level of readiness in many aspects of live-learning compared to undergraduate and sub-degree students.

It is suggested that instructors establish clear live learning online expectations of what students have to be aware of and learn prior to, during and after an Live Session. This means providing additional materials such as summaries, gist quizzes, sketches, concept maps and study guides. Instructors can also create activities to reinforce what students have learned, like reviewing, rehearsing debating, discussing, and analyzing.
